What kind of speech needs to be protected?

• Do you need to protect "nice" speech?
• Do you need to protect telling people how wonderful they are?
• Do you need to protect saying you like the government?
• Do you need to protect saying you love animals?
• Do you need to protect saying you want to save the forests?
• Do you need to protect saying you believe in peace on earth?

Of course not and that is not what Freedom of Speech was designed to protect.

 

Well then what kind of speech does need to be protected?

• The French Enlightenment writer - Voltaire is perhaps the single best quoted source to illustrate the point:

     "I may disagree with everything that you say, but I shall defend to the death
       you're right to say it." - Evelyn Beatrice Hall "The Friends of Voltaire (1906)"

So Freedom of Speech, defends your right to offend others with your thoughts or ideas.

Strict Rule of Law: If it's not against the law - we will protect it.

Now this may seem odd. As of course we follow the laws of our country; but... We've noticed that many other hosting companies, tend to make up their own additional laws as they go:

•Is your content controversial? unpopular? or outside the societal norm?
•Are there activist groups that will complain about you or your products?
•Will law enforcement call the hosting company saying they are investigating a possible crime?

We've found and rescued customers - who've been at various hosting companies - who found their account - immediately suspended, terminated, or even deleted - many times without any notice what-so-ever. Read the "Terms Of Service" of your current hosting provider - carefully as most hosting companies are out to protect themselves only - not -you-.
